What is one of your favorite poems?
Submitted by marvel is my pen name.
I'm really not a big fan of poetry. I don't really enjoy analyzing and interpreting poems, because there's just about a thousand and more ways to interpret a certain poem. But anyway, here's a poem I've come to like. I first heard it during Easter homily two years ago? Be blessed :)
Myra Brooks Welch
It was battered and scarred,
And the auctioneer thought it
hardly worth his while
To waste his time on the old violin,
but he held it up with a smile.
"What am I bid, good people", he cried,
"Who starts the bidding for me?"
"One dollar, one dollar, Do I hear two?"
"Two dollars, who makes it three?"
"Three dollars once, three dollars twice, going for three,"
But, No,
From the room far back a gray bearded man
Came forward and picked up the bow,
Then wiping the dust from the old violin
And tightening up the strings,
He played a melody, pure and sweet
As sweet as the angel sings.
The music ceased and the auctioneer
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said "What now am I bid for this old violin?"
As he held it aloft with its' bow.
"One thousand, one thousand, Do I hear two?"
"Two thousand, Who makes it three?"
"Three thousand once, three thousand twice,
Going and gone", said he.
The audience cheered,
But some of them cried,
"We just don't understand."
"What changed its' worth?"
Swift came the reply.
"The Touch of the Masters Hand."
And many a man with life out of tune
All battered with bourbon and gin
Is auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd
Much like that old violin
A mess of pottage, a glass of wine,
A game and he travels on.
He is going once, he is going twice,
He is going and almost gone.
But the Master comes,
And the foolish crowd never can quite understand,
The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought
By the Touch of the Masters' Hand.
What books are on your nightstand?
Nice question today. I've recently gotten used to reading several books at a time. I never really did this before, because it can get confusing and it's more organized when you read one book at a time. But then there are certain books that are good to read when you feel a certain way. Just me being weird. Anyway, here's the list:
- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. I just finished reading this recently. I just haven't gotten around to taking it back to the library. It's a peculiar book, actually, but very interesting.
- A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. Another borrowed book from the library. I'm almost done with this. I just can't bring myself to read this in long periods, because it's so depressing. I'm guessing it'll get better at the end. Oh, and the way it's written -- without the quotation marks and "he said" "she said" stuff -- really gets to me.
- Wild At Heart by John Eldredge. I've been planning to read this ever since I got it as a Christmas gift from Chi. I dunno why I never got around to reading it, until now. I'm only a few pages into it, so I can't really say much.
- When God Writes Your Love Story by Eric and Leslie Ludy. Ian asked me to read one chapter about a month ago, and I never got around to putting it back on my shelf. And coz it's there, I often read bits and pieces from chapters when I feel like it.
- The Message Remix. Why of course, I've got to have at least a Bible on my side table. :p
What's your morning beverage of choice? Coffee, tea, juice? Homemade or store-bought?
Really, it used to be coffee. I didn't care whether it was cheap-ass coffee from the street or home brewed Starbucks, just as long it had caffeine it was good. But then, I'm all for healthier living.. So nowadays, it's a tall glass of sweetened soymilk. I'm not a breakfast person, so that gets me through until lunch time. Of course, it's store-bought. I'm not yet crazy enough to make my own soymilk. Hahaha!
I'm totally loving this movie. No, it's not because of Channing Tatum. (My boyfriend's body's better. HAHAHA!) I've watched the movie twice, and didn't get bored or anything the second time around. And I lovelovelove the soundtrack. Cmon a girl needs her dose of hip-hop as well. I'm not after the lyrics, just the melody and the feel of the music.
I think I'm turning into a boy. Haha! Don't you worry, I still listen to my old school jazz music.
How cute were you as a baby/child? Let's see those baby pics
This is the best baby picture I could come up with. More like, the only picture I have. Since all our photo albums are in Manila.
I think I was a year-old when this picture was taken. It was some kid's birthday party. I don't remember who it was. Probably one of my cousins.
I really did have a big head then. HAHAHA! I'd like to think, that housed a great mind as well. Guess who was called Casper when she was younger? Nyaha.
So much for a first post! :) This is interesting. I hope I don't get tired of this anytime soon.
