LESSONS LEARNED THE HARD AND NOT-SO-HARD WAY
- Love involves both reason and emotion. Without reason, it is merely attraction. Without emotion, it is merely rationalization.

- "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." -- 1 Corinthians 13:13
- Those who care don't matter, and those who matter don't care.
- Behaviors change by an emotional experience, not by rational interpretations.
- As a nurse, you can never ever be able to fully detach ourselves from your patients. When that happens, that's the time you've got to detach yourself from nursing.
- Respect is a two-way street.

2006 IN A NUTSHELL
- The year was pretty much off to a rough start. We lost Uncle George on New Year's Eve 2006 Manila time. It was a huge surprise. But it was nevertheless a valuable lesson learned at the beginning of the year. Life's too short and you don't know when your last breath will be. He was blessed and he lived life to the fullest as God intended him to do.
- I learned to be more comfortable in my decisions and opinions. Yes, not everyone will agree. Not everything will be ideal. But whose standards apply anyway? Only His and mine. This year I've learned to fully grasp and own my decisions. At the same time live up to its setbacks.
- I fully owned Ian by name and by heart. He knows what this means. (And I guess, some of you do too.) Initially, we were a grey area. Us, but not really. Because of this and that. Only the two of us know. Thank God, I've understood at the beginning of the year that God gives us the desires of our heart. Who are we to say no when it is given and laid out in front of us?
- This year, I learned to be vulnerable. I'm pretty much relational. I value intimate and close relationships -- with family, a partner, a best friend, etc. When I feel like I am not valued the same way as I do the other person, I make myself believe I don't need anyone. Make the other person believe I don't need them. This year, I've learned to say I need you and I need you to need me too. I've learned to break the walls I built myself.
- Ian's my best friend. Over the year, we have grown so much as an individual person and as a couple. We also argue a lot. But he understands me more than anyone, simply because he is very similar to me. More than anyone, he tries hard to understand my needs. And I thank God he hasn't given up on me. He's the only one who makes me feel I'm worth fighting for. Worthy to be explored even if I pose as a huge threat. I know sometimes I am a pain in the ass. I make things harder for him as it is, but he is still there. He inspires me to become a better person.
- Chi has always had my back all the time. We've talked less this year. She may not know it, but she is the only person I run to when I need someone to listen to me and someone to earnestly pray for me. We are so different yet still find common ground. I feel like I could have been a better friend to her this year, but I hope she'll still give me a chance next year. Hahaha, more souprices! :)
- 2006 was the year I let loose and just lived. I have a lot of ideals. I want things done perfectly in a certain order. While morals are important, it is still important to live. This year I learned to do just that. 2006 was my year of freedom from myself and my ideals. :)
- I have been utterly blessed to have met patients in my clinical rotations. I will never forget my patient who I had for the most part in Psych. He might think otherwise, but it was he who made me more comfortable in conversing with people with emotional problems. After taking care of him, it was easier to understand people who have problems similar to his (only in a less degree). Neither will I forget about my adolescent patient struggling with her first baby but at the same time so optimistic and ecstatic to take care of this bundle of joy. She has taught me what happiness is really made of. That amidst hurdles, there is still happiness. I thank God for all the patients I took care of this year, because they have all taught me to see people different from me in a different way. God bless them all.
- I've been more comfortable in school, especially in clinicals. Gone are the days when I would walk in a patient's room all jittery. After this year, I can really say I am comfortable in the career I have chosen. I thank God that He has showed me my niche. Maternity?! ;)
- This year was the year of friendship. Sometimes things happen when you least expect them too. Even after we've all hung out at several parties. How would we know that all it needed to take was an afternoon in Central Park of playing volleyball and walking 20 blocks or more to Saigon Grill. From there on followed trips to the beach, spontaneous trips to the mall, sleepovers, Bible study nights, barbecue parties, and a thousand or so pictures together. It was a great year, Sanga Girls. Haha! :)
- It was a year of several best week ever's (the first one being somewhere in April ;P), surprise LJ entries, surprise Johnny Air packages, birthday cakes we eat ourselves (HAHA), random Myspace comments, and cellphone calls out of nowhere.
- JP came down to visit twice this year. Hahaha, what can I say? Nothing beats seeing a good old friend. Especially one who's known you since second grade. Next year ulit (and hopefully, someone else will be here too.)
- This was the year I finally got a job. My job is a bore -- data entry and invoicing. But it is still better than staying home doing nothing. I'm hoping I can save for next semester. I should stop shopping!!!
- 2006 was still a year of waiting, just like 2005. God first taught me to grasp waiting last year. I guess He is still not done with me, because right now I am still... waiting. Hahaha! I can say though that I have been more patient with waiting. For Ian. For graduation. For my RN license. For our green cards. For a chance to go home. I know that He will answer all of this one by one. AMEN! :)
During my prayertime, I got these messages. How appropriate. :) On to 2007!!!
"You who are young, make the most of your youth. Relish your youthful vigor. Follow the impulses of your heart. If something looks good to you, pursue it. But know also that not just anything goes; You have to answer to God for every last bit of it." - Ecclesiastes 11:9 (The Message)
"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" - Psalms 27:14
